What began as a placement internship as part of my MA in Anthropology at the University of Bristol quickly became something much bigger. Based on the quality of my work, I was retained as a paid Research Assistant, then independently sought out by name by two further Anglia Ruskin University academics who wanted me specifically for their own projects.

The centrepiece was coordinating a regional stakeholder event exploring far-right activism and mobilisation across the Eastern region, across its entire lifecycle — implementation, logistics, venue and delegate coordination, on-the-day facilitation and post-event evaluation. That meant drafting invitations, agendas and delegate communications; coordinating venue, accommodation, catering, IT, parking and travel; and managing registrations, dietary and accessibility requirements through a detailed tracking system. In the run-up to the day I prepared registration materials, signage and delegate packs, and confirmed room layouts and AV requirements directly with the venue.

On the day itself I welcomed delegates, liaised with security, suppliers and internal teams to keep the schedule on track, and resolved the small practical problems that come up in any live event. Afterwards I analysed attendee feedback and produced the reports that fed into future events and training materials — 90% of attendees rated it “extremely useful”.
