Four Years of Independent Outreach for Bath

Four years representing the University of Bath at outreach events across England and Wales — often the first face prospective students, parents and teachers actually met.

Outreach Student Ambassador
Timeframe
Oct 2017 – May 2020

I held multiple roles at the University of Bath across student recruitment, widening participation, outreach, peer mentoring and campus support — building a comprehensive and varied experience of student-facing and institutional work over four years.

I represented the University of Bath, independently and within a team, at a wide range of large-scale in-person and virtual recruitment events and campus outreach activities, engaging prospective students, families and school partners as a key institutional representative across England and Wales.

Selected events

  • Full-day UCAS Fair in Carmarthen, South West Wales
  • Supported the running of Spotlight on Social Sciences, a campus day for around 100 students from 10 schools — workshops, tours and event registration
  • Delivered ambassador-led On Track to Bath sessions — student life talks and workshops for school groups visiting campus
  • Visited secondary schools for WON (Western Outreach Network) outreach days, delivering university, careers and student life sessions to Year 9 and 11 students
  • Participated in Live Chat events, fielding questions from prospective students online in real time

Often, I was the first point of contact for a wide range of attendees at events — prospective students, parents, teachers, school partners and stakeholders — not just answering questions but reading the room: knowing when someone needed a straight answer about entry requirements and when they needed reassurance about leaving home for the first time. I delivered engaging presentations on applications, student life and subject choices to prospective students and their families, supported Faculty events and distributed materials, and coordinated lead collection for follow-up by the university recruitment team.

Because the audience regularly included under-18s, the role came with comprehensive training from the Student Recruitment and Widening Participation teams — covering the HRC Code of Practice (including online provision), Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, and Health and Safety responsibilities — along with a Disclosure and Barring Service check. It’s a level of compliance I carried consistently across every single event, in busy, public-facing environments.
